Benchmark Quiz Information
All students recieved a benchmark folder in class; these folders need to brought to school everyday, even when they don't have math. If they lose their folder they will not get another one but they can print all the documents by following the benchmark folder link on the left.
Pre-Algebra upcoming quizzes:
- Multiplying/dividing whole numbers: Wednesday, Sept. 8
- Order of Operations: Tuesday, Sept. 14
Math 7 upcoming quizzes:
- Adding whole numbers: Tuesday, September 7
- Subtracting whole numbers: Monday, September 13
General Information:
I will give approximately 8 benchmark quizzes each term (five for Math 7); these quizzes test students on important concepts that need to be mastered in pre-algebra. To advance on to Elementary Algebra or Algebra-A next year all quizzes need to be passed; this helps lay a solid foundation.
To pass a quiz students need to score an 80% or better (4/5).
If they don't pass a quiz they may retake it as many times as needed; but each time a quiz is retaken the highest possible grade decreases by 10%. (For more information please refer to the Benchmarks Policies and Procedures Document)
I suggest the following:
- Do your homework!
- Take good notes in class.
- Study or get help before quizzes are given.
- Retake quizzes as soon as possible (don't procrastinate!)
- Stay organized (don't lose quizzes, you need to make corrections on old ones before taking a new one)
***Benchmarks aren't the only item I consider when making math class recommendations for the next year, I also take into account:
- Work ethic
- The amount of retakes and the timeliness of retaking them
- CRT scores (end of year testing, a score of 3 or 4)
- Math grade of B or better
- Retention
